Roebourne Work Camp was officially opened on 20 June 2014 following the closure of the Millstream regional work camp facility.

The camp, adjacent to Roebourne Regional Prison aims to reduce the high offending rates among Aboriginal prisoners from the Pilbara region. It is a purpose-built facility that provides accommodation for up to 30 suitably selected, low-risk prisoners.

On-site regimes will encourage responsibility and self-determination which will assist prisoners on release and increase their chances of successful re-entry into the community. Being located close to the town, the work camp’s participants will have access to employment and vocational skills training and other programs.

By developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with stakeholders and community networks, the work camp facilitates the interaction of prisoners and offenders as they undertake reparation to the local community.
