Important information for visitors to our prisons and the Banksia Hill Detention Centre

20 April 2020

The Department of Justice, Corrective Services is working to minimise the risks posed to prisoners and staff by the introduction of COVID-19 into the custodial estate.

Our Pandemic Management Plan is in place while each prison has its own operational plan to keep those in our care, staff and visitors healthy and safe.

The Commissioner has appointed a Deputy Commissioner to head a Corrective Services Taskforce to coordinate the response to the risks posed by COVID-19.

Measures to prevent and manage COVID-19 are being reviewed every day based on the latest medical advice.

Visitors are advised of current restrictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Do NOT visit a prison facility or Banksia Hill Detention Centre if you:

  • have returned from overseas travel in the last 14 days OR
  • are a contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case OR
  • believe you have been in close contact with a person infected with COVID-19 OR
  • are unwell, have a temperature or have flu-like symptoms.

These measures support the safety and security of our prisons.

If your visit is cancelled due to health reasons, please contact the facility to discuss alternative arrangements such as
additional phone calls or an e-visit through Skype.
