Acacia Prison was the first privately-managed correctional facility in Western Australia.
The service contract commenced in 2001 under Australian Integrated Management Services.
As part of the retender process, Serco Australia Pty Ltd won the contract in 2006. The first of two 5 year options to extend the contract was awarded to Serco in 2011.
The contract emphasises the need to ensure security of the prison, while providing suitable prisoner programs aimed at reducing re-offending as well as creating opportunities for innovation across both private and public prisons.
The Department provides onsite monitoring services at Acacia that ensure the Contractor is performing against contract requirements.
