The Department has played a key role in leading a national working party to revise the Standard Guidelines for Corrections in Australia.
These revised guidelines and accompanying principles constitute outcomes or goals to be achieved, rather than a set of absolute standards or laws to be enforced. They approach corrections from a human rights perspective and set standards for community corrections and prisons.
