Prisoner Rehabilitation and Education

Downloads are available below

The Department plays an important role in providing meaningful, practical and realistic rehabilitation for prisoners.

Offenders are encouraged to participate in a wide range of educational and vocational training programs that are available throughout the State while they are in custody. Programs are managed by the Education and Vocational Training Unit and are aimed at securing employment for offenders upon release.

Integrated Prison Regime

The Integrated Prison Regime is a major change strategy being implemented in the prisons of Western Australia. A fundamental premise on which IPR is based is that the prison regime itself and the quality of the interactions that occur within the regime, are central to achieving the outcomes required of the prison system. The main components include:

  • unit management;
  • case management;
  • cognitive skills program;
  • enhanced constructive day; and
  • incentives and earned privileges.
