Prison Counselling Service

The Prison Counselling Service is a team of psychologists and social workers which provides a service to most prisons throughout Western Australia.

The team's primary objective is to improve the psychological wellbeing of offenders in custody. The aim is to improve their chances of adopting law-abiding lifestyles on their return to the community, and to create a safer environment within prisons.

The Prison Counselling Service conducts risk and needs assessments on prisoners to identify self-harm, suicide and other clinical or behavioural risk factors.

It conducts crisis counselling, critical incident debriefing and interventions designed to enhance rehabilitative outcomes and adjustment in prisons and prepare offenders' re-entry into the community.
