Managing Informants
The Department of Corrective Services is committed to maintaining a workplace that is open, honest and free from corruption.
Informants who disclose confidential information now have a new level of protection.
The Department has endorsed a Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS) policy that protects both staff (known as handlers) and informants if they provide information which may threaten the good order and security of the prison.
The policy ensures the identity and integrity of informants is protected at all times and all information provided is treated with strict confidentiality to avoid potential compromise and litigation. Under the policy informants are managed in a clear, accountable and consistent manner.
The policy also outlines the required training for appropriate staff as well as the secure framework through which information is passed.
Reporting
All employees approached by a person who wishes to provide information are urged to contact their Superintendent, Security Manager or Line Manager at the earliest opportunity.
For further information refer to the Policy for the Management of Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS).
