The Justice Drug Plan 2003 is a courageous blueprint for tackling the multitude of drug-related issues that confront our criminal justice system. The Government has committed $2.135 million annually to implement the comprehensive plan.
The Government's determination to tackle the justice-related drug issue was galvanised in February 2003, when it convened a groundbreaking 'Drugs Roundtable' involving experts from around Australia. The roundtable provided tangible, up-to-date evidence of community thinking on drugs and drug management trends in the community.
The Justice Drug Plan is the culmination of that two-day exchange of ideas - it incorporates the findings of the roundtable and promises to produce a significant increase in services and strategies to prevent and reduce drug-related harm.
