Community work orders enable adult offenders to repay their debt to WA for crimes committed, by contributing to important not-for-profit community projects.
Community work is a court sentencing option that provides offenders with the opportunity to develop new work and social skills to help them integrate into society. It also saves taxpayers' money with imprisonment costing 10 times more than the supervision of offenders on work orders.
Community work has made a valuable contribution to WA communities since 1977. In 2004, the Department launched the Repay WA program to administer most community work projects.
