Clinical specialists work with a team of health care professionals in the delivery of care to our patients with complex health needs.

What does the job involve?

As a clinical specialist with the Department, you will provide a range of clinical services including supporting the development of, and implementing, harm prevention and harm minimisation strategies.  Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Undertaking assessments of patients
  • Working with a multi-discipline team to provide quality care to patients in a custodial environment.

Hours of work - primarily Monday to Fridays – 8.00 am to 4.00 pm

Salary

From $74,937 per annum.

Regional incentive allowance

  • Annual leave concessions including family for employees based more than 240 km from Perth.
  • Long service leave provisions

Salary packaging

The following benefits can be included in salary packaging:

Additional incentives

The following incentives are available for clinicians  employed at Eastern Goldfields, Roebourne and Broome Regional Prisons only:

  • district allowance
  • home loan subsidy scheme
  • payment for reasonable water usage
  • subsidised payment on air conditioning usage (applies to Roebourne and Broome Regional prisons only).

Clinicians employed at Roebourne Regional Prison who are allocated Government Regional Officers Housing (GROH) receive rent free accommodation.

Leave entitlements

  • Annual Leave – 20 days per each period of 12 months continuous service
  • 17.5% leave loading on annual leave
  • 13 weeks long service leave after 10 years service
  • One’s weeks additional leave if  stationed north of the 26th parallel south
  • Personal Leave  
  • Parental Leave (paid) - 12 weeks effective from 1 July 2007, and 14 weeks effective from 1 July 2008
  • Parental Leave (unpaid) - up to two years (includes any period of paid parental leave taken)
  • Ceremonial/Cultural Leave
  • Study Leave
  • Long Service Leave - 13 weeks (upon completion of 7 years continuous service)
  • Purchased Leave - two or three weeks (reduced salary over 52 weeks).

Who are we looking for?

Dedicated health professionals who can take on challenges and work in difficult and demanding environments.

Eligibility, assessment, selection and appointment processes

Eligible for registration with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia; and/or registered as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia, with significant post registration experience in mental health/addictions.

You will also need to posses clinical skills in the management of clients with mental health and/or addictions issues, with the demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate care at a personal, and at a unit level.

You are team member who also demonstrates the ability to communicate and interact effectively with a wide range of cultures, groups and individuals, and have commitment to working within a collegiate team model.

Assessment and testing requirements

Applicants must successfully complete all assessments used in the selection process to be placed in the Appointment Pool and considered for employment.  These assessments include:

  • eligibility and identification checks
  • Citizenship test  (if applicable)
  • Departmental selection panel interview
  • medical assessment to meet entry into Australia requirements
  • Criminal history screening (this is undertaken by the Department following receipt of applications – applicants are not required to obtain a police clearance) and possibly integrity checking (in-house).
