Additional biometric security technology is being introduced in the gatehouses of three of the State’s maximum security prisons for men.
Iris scanning equipment will be installed at Hakea, Casuarina and Albany prisons to positively identify social visitors to these prisons.
This technology is expected to be operational by October 2008. It will add to existing security measures for social visitors which include photo identification checks.
