Serco Australia began a five-year contract at Acacia Prison in May 2006.
The State Government contract emphasises the need to ensure security of the prison, while providing suitable prisoner programs aimed at reducing re-offending.
Serco has appointed Director Rod MacFarquhar as designated superintendent and is working to develop a broad senior management team and increase staff numbers.
Serco operates across Europe, the Middle East, North America and the Asia Pacific. Serco Australia has strong business relationships in WA through Defence Maritime Services with Austal Ships; services to HMAS Stirling; and the operation of Transperth Passenger Information call centre business.
From 2001-2006, Australian Integration Management Services Corporation (AIMS Corporation) held the contract for the management of the prison.
